IndustriALL Global Union and its affiliate, SNTHC-CDT, are leading efforts to address these issues, with an optimistic meeting with the Ministry of Labour, marking a step toward long-term solutions.

Raising awareness of EIS in Bangladesh

The employment injury scheme (EIS) is a social protection programme in Bangladesh which includes compensation for medical treatment and rehabilitation services, as well as income loss caused by occupational injuries and disease. Iran: mine explosion kills 50

One of the worst industrial accidents in Iran killed 50 mine workers and injured 16 more as methane gas exploded in a coal mine in Tabas, eastern Iran, on 22 September. The day before the explosion, workers informed management about the smell of methane gas in the tunnels, but they were still made to go to work.

Worker at ArcelorMittal Brazil suffers electric shock

Rising toll in Pakistan's dangerous mines

Between 7 and 10 August, two miners tragically lost their lives while working at the PMDC Shahrigh lease and Shahrigh coal field in Balochistan, Pakistan respectively. On 7 August, a miner fell from a roof and died while on duty. Just days later, on 10 August, another miner was killed in a separate accident.

Another explosion at Indonesian nickel plant injures workers

An explosion at PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) on 13 June left two workers with burns. It is the second explosion in six months at the same factory - the first killed 21 workers - and the union is calling for improved health and safety provisions.
