Update on IAM ratification vote at United
USA: The IMF-affiliated International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) reports that a new 5-year collective agreement was ratified on March 5, 2002, by its mechanic and related employees at United Airlines, and thus brings to an end the 27-month-old contract dispute at the USA’s No. 2 airlines.
The IAM says that the settlement, which is retroactive to July 12, 2000, will make the union’s 13,000 mechanics and related employees at United Airlines the highest paid in the airline industry.
The agreement was ratified by 59 per cent of the voting membership.
Separate negotiations are still being held to resolve a two-year contract impasse at United for 30,000 IAM employees in ramp services, stores, public contact, food services and security officers.
